'Time Changer'

This past Friday we had our first ever movie night at Alva Baptist Church. We had a great time of fellowship together and enjoyed this very thought provoking film. Afterward we had a time of discussion and prayer as many of us were convicted to do some serious spiritual inventory of our own lives. Here's an overview of the story:

The year is 1890 and bible professor Russel Carlisle has written a new manuscript entitled "The Changing Times". His book is about to receive a unanimous endorsement from the board members of the Grace Bible Seminary until his colleague Dr. Norris Anderson raises an objection.

Dr. Anderson believes that what Carlisle has written could greatly affect the future of coming generations. Using a secret time machine, Anderson sends Carlisle over 100 years into the future, offering him a glimpse of where his beliefs will lead.

The main thing Dr. Anderson objected to was Carlisle's view that you can teach morality apart from the basis of morality which is Jesus and his word. Among many things that made the movie interesting was the prediction from Anderson that morals would begin to collapse if there's no basis for them. This is exactly where we find ourselves today in our post-modern culture. There's no longer any such thing as absolute truth and unfortunately this is not only being proclaimed in the media and secular universities, it's being taught in many churches and seminaries by those who would identify themselves as Christians.
It was an eye opening film as to how far we have fallen in little over 100 years. In 1890 the divorce rate was at around 5%. The latest stat. on divorce here in the UK has it at nearly 66%. In America it is over 50% and the church is no different. The stuff we see and blow off everyday as no big deal would have been considered complete filth 100 years ago. It makes me wonder how far things will go and reminds me that our only hope is a true revival especially of those that fill churches every Sunday. We have allowed ourselves to fall asleep while moral filth and decay has overspread the land and crept into the churches.

I would highly recommend this film as I think with the power of the Holy Spirit it will cause many including Christians to go to their knees afterward in prayer and repentance.
