"The Apostles' Teaching" (The importance of true, solid doctrine)
From Sunday Sermon 6 December:
When the bible tells us that disciples
"devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching",
What do you think when you hear the phrase?
"apostles'teaching"
The Teaching or Doctrine of the apostles?
- What do you believe?
- Why do you believe it?
Hear some words of Jesus and descriptions of His doctrine:
Matthew 16:6, 12
6 "Watch and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees."
12 …he did not tell them to beware of the leaven of bread, but of the teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees.
(watch-out! bad teaching gets into your head)
Mark 4:2 And he was teaching them many things in parables…
(good teaching calls for practical applications)
Luke 4:32 and they were astonished at his teaching, for his word possessed authority.
John 7:16 So Jesus answered them, "My teaching is not mine, but his who sent me.
Jesus' teaching is the Doctrine of GodThe other writers in the bible 'hitch their wagons' to the truth of Christ:
Eph. 2:19-20
19 So then you are no longer strangers and aliens,
but you are fellow citizens with the saints
and members of the household of God,
20 built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets,
Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone,
1 John 1:5
"This is the message we have heard from Him, and proclaim to you…"
The apostles teaching, is the teaching of Christ.What do you think when you hear the phrase?

- The Bible contains the written word of God The teachings of Jesus and His apostles
